Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Benefits in Texas

3 min read

PIP benefits cover your medical bills regardless of who caused the accident. Learn what PIP is, how much coverage Texas requires, and why it matters.

WHAT IS PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION (PIP)?

Generally, an insurance company will not pay its insured's medical bills if the insured is found at fault for an accident. PIP benefits are different. They are paid by your insurance company to cover medical bills regardless of fault.

PIP REQUIREMENTS IN TEXAS

In Texas, a minimum of $2,500 in PIP benefits is required on every auto insurance policy unless the insured expressly declines coverage in writing. Most coverages range from $5,000 to $10,000.

WHY YOU SHOULD MAXIMIZE YOUR PIP COVERAGE

We strongly recommend obtaining the highest PIP coverage available. The increase in monthly premium is often minimal, but the protection can be significant if you are ever involved in an accident where you are found at fault or where liability is disputed.

PIP benefits can cover:
- Medical bills and hospital expenses
- Lost wages due to injury
- Funeral expenses in fatal accident cases
- Replacement services for tasks you cannot perform due to injury
